The /videos/conversions calls are used to create, search for and delete individual video files (conversions) inside a video object. Conversions do not differ from each other in terms of content; they only differ in terms of format, quality and file size.
Conversions and templates¶
A conversion is always created by applying a transcoding template to a video. A template contains information for the dimensions, bitrate and watermark of the resulting conversion. Every new account contains a number of templates, from web to HD quality.
The Bits on the Run transcoder uses this information to transcode (convert) the uploaded file (the original) of a video into the new conversion. Due to the computational intensity of these jobs, it takes a while before a conversion is created. As a rule of thumb, take 1 minute of processing time for every minute duration of the original.
